About the position

This vacancy is open to candidates across the full academic ladder — from Senior lecture to Professor level (or equivalent). Applicants are required to indicate a preferred title. The final position level will be confirmed by the University's Selection Committee based on the candidate's qualifications, publications, and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Teaching courses in hydraulic land reclamation, irrigation regimes, the hydraulics of irrigation systems, and related subjects at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
  • Developing and regularly updating course syllabi and instructional materials in line with the objectives and requirements of the educational programs in the land reclamation field.
  • Updating course content to reflect current approaches to irrigation modelling, smart irrigation, GIS and remote sensing, climate-adapted agriculture, and international industry practices.
  • Supervising coursework, capstone and master's projects, as well as student projects, on irrigation, water conservation, and the digital monitoring of irrigation systems.
  • Participating in the university's research and/or applied projects in land reclamation, irrigation, and climate-adapted agriculture.

Requirements

Education Requirements

  • Possession of a PhD degree or an equivalent degree in hydraulic reclamation, water management, land reclamation, agricultural engineering, or a related field.
  • Ability to translate these competencies into high‑quality teaching and student supervision at all levels of higher education

Experience Requirements

  • Academic and teaching experience consistent with the requirements for the position of Professor / Associate Professor (Dotsent) established by the university's internal regulations and the legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan in force.

Language Requirements

  • For teaching in the state and/or Russian language: fluency in the state and/or Russian language sufficient to conduct classes, engage in scholarly communication, and handle business correspondence.
  • For teaching in English: a confirmed level of English proficiency sufficient to conduct classes and carry out academic duties.

Key competencies

Core Professional Competencies

  • Knowledge of the fundamentals of hydraulic land reclamation and irrigation-regime calculation.
  • An understanding of how irrigation systems and field water-delivery processes work.
  • Teaching skills in land reclamation, soil water regime, and agricultural water use.

Additional Competencies

  • Hydroinformatics and irrigation modelling using HEC-RAS, WEAP, MIKE Hydro, and AquaCrop.
  • Precision irrigation, smart irrigation, moisture sensors, and digital agro-monitoring.
  • GIS and remote sensing in land reclamation.
  • Climate-smart agriculture and the ICID and FAO standards.
