Academic Faculty Position in “Water Supply and Sanitation”

About the position

This vacancy is open to candidates at all academic levels — from Senior Lecturer to Professor (or equivalent positions). Candidates should indicate their preferred academic rank. The final level of the position will be determined by the University’s Competition Committee based on the candidate’s qualifications, publications, and experience.

Responsibilities

• Teach courses in water supply and sanitation, pumping stations, water and wastewater treatment, and operation of water supply and sanitation (WSS) systems at undergraduate and master’s levels.
• Develop and regularly update course syllabi and teaching materials in line with the goals and requirements of educational programmes in water supply and sanitation.
• Update course content to reflect modern approaches to smart water systems, digital water utilities, Water Safety Plans, international standards, and digital network modelling.
• Supervise coursework, final-year projects, and master’s theses on the design, operation, digitalisation, and safety of water supply and sanitation systems.
• Participate in university research and/or applied projects and collaborate with sector-specific organisations in the field of water supply and sanitation.

Requirements

• Possession of an academic degree (PhD, Candidate of Sciences, or Doctor of Sciences) in water supply and sanitation, water resources management, engineering systems, or related fields.
• Academic and teaching experience in accordance with the requirements for academic faculty positions established by the University’s internal regulations and the current legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
• English language skills are desirable.

• Smart Water Systems: IoT, sensors, leak monitoring.
• Digital Water Utility: SCADA, digital networks.
• Water Safety Plan according to WHO standards.
• ISO 24510 / 24511 / 24512.
• Digital network modelling, including EPANET and WaterGEMS.

Key competencies

• Knowledge of the design and operation of water supply and sanitation systems.
• Understanding of hydraulic processes and the operation of WSS networks and facilities.
• Skills in teaching specialised disciplines on WSS systems.
• Ability to provide high-quality teaching and student supervision at all levels of higher education on the basis of these competencies.

Selection process

The selection process includes an interview, a teaching course presentation, and submission of a proposed research plan.
