The School of Energy and Natural Resources focuses on the integration of renewable and conventional energy systems to support water, energy, and climate security.

The School's teaching and research activities address the challenges of energy efficiency, renewable energy integration, and circular energy systems for industrial and municipal applications. Its goal is to contribute to Kazakhstan's low-carbon transition and strengthen the water–energy nexus.

Key academic and research areas

  • Design and operation of small hydropower and hybrid renewable energy systems
  • Water–energy nexus technologies, including desalination and energy-efficient pumping
  • Industrial water and energy management in the oil, gas, and mining sectors
  • Transition toward carbon-neutral and circular energy systems
  • Smart grids and digital energy management tools

Responsibilities

  • Lead educational programme development in energy engineering, renewable systems, and natural resource management;
  • Drive the School's research agenda in hydropower, renewable energy integration, and the water–energy nexus;
  • Build partnerships with energy companies, research institutes, and national and international sustainability programmes;
  • Support faculty recruitment, mentoring, and interdisciplinary research collaboration;
  • Ensure curriculum quality and alignment with industry needs and national priorities;
  • Manage the School's budget, resources, and strategic direction;
  • Represent the School in university governance and external energy sector networks

Requirements

  • Doctoral degree (PhD or equivalent) in energy engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related field;
  • Recognised research achievements, evidenced by publications, patents, or applied project results;
  • Proven leadership experience in academia or the energy industry;
  • Expertise in renewable energy technologies, energy efficiency, or industrial water–energy management;
  • Strong organisational, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills;
  • Proficiency in English; knowledge of Kazakh and/or Russian is an advantage.
