Research Laboratory

The “Hydraulics and Special Hydraulic Structures” research laboratory at the Kazakh National University of Water Management and Irrigation is a dedicated space for theoretical and applied research in fluid mechanics, engineering hydrology, and the design of hydraulic infrastructure.

The laboratory actively involves undergraduate, master’s, and PhD students in scientific research related to filtration processes, channel deformation, flow regimes, sedimentation, and flow-structure interaction. Investigations are based on flow dynamics, hydrological models, and principles of sustainable water use.

The lab is equipped with the following modern experimental stands:
S11-А – filtration in porous media
S2-4M-А– flow visualization in open channels
S16 – hydraulic jump characteristics
S10 – hydrograph analysis of rainwater runoff
S1 – sewerage and filtration model stand
W2-А – sedimentation process simulation
S12-МК – hydrological and riverbed process analysis
S8-MKII – demonstration of channel form changes and deformations

These setups allow for realistic modeling of hydraulic conditions and the study of flow lines, filtration networks, sedimentation regimes, and channel morphology essential for the design of hydraulic structures.

The laboratory contributes to state-funded research programs, collaborates with industry and academia, integrates scientific results into the learning environment, and supports commercialization of innovations.
