Plans for International Cooperation

​The Kazakh National University of Water Management and Irrigation (KazNUWMI) is actively expanding its international partnerships to strengthen academic excellence, research capacity, and global engagement in the field of water management, irrigation, and environmental sustainability. International cooperation is a core pillar of the university’s development strategy, ensuring that education and research at KazNUWMI meet global standards of innovation, interdisciplinarity, and policy relevance.

Key Partner Institutions and Initiatives

​​Óbuda University (Hungary) Óbuda University closely cooperates with Kazakh National University of Water Management and Irrigation (KazNUWMI) in the field of academic mobility. Currently, 44 students from KazNUWMI are undertaking academic mobility programs at Óbuda University in such areas as Big Data, Embedded Systems, Artificial Intelligence, and other related disciplines.

Corvinus University of Budapest (Hungary) 
Corvinus University collaborates with KazNUWMI through the Double degree Master’s Program in Water Diplomacy and Water Resources Management. At present, 14 master’s students have been admitted to this specialized program. The cooperation also extends to academic mobility for master’s, and doctoral students, ensuring interdisciplinary and international research experience. 

North China University of Water Resources and Electric Power (China)
 The North China University of Water Resources and Electric Power (NCWU) works with KazNUWMI on establishing a Joint Laboratory and the opening of a branch or research center of NCWU within KazNUWMI. Future collaboration includes the development of bachelor-level programs in Water Resources Management and Electric Power Engineering. 

Lund University (Sweden)
 Lund University partners with KazNUWMI through a Joint Project aimed at enhancing water resources management and supporting the strategic development of the university. Within the framework of international cooperation, invited professors such as Professor Ronny Benson and Dr. Amir Nagibi (PhD) delivered lectures for students and applicants of KazNUWMI in May 2025, contributing to the exchange of academic expertise and innovative approaches in water and environmental studies.

Mobility and Research Opportunities

​KazNUWMI’s internationalization strategy includes the annual provision of 10–15 competitive grants to support student and faculty participation in study programs, internships, and research projects abroad. These opportunities enable the university community to gain global experience, enhance scientific collaboration, and strengthen Kazakhstan’s role in international water research and policy dialogue.
