About the position
This vacancy is open to candidates across the full academic ladder — from Senior lecture to Professor level (or equivalent). Applicants are required to indicate a preferred title. The final position level will be confirmed by the University's Selection Committee based on the candidate's qualifications, publications, and experience.
Responsibilities
Area 1: Building Design
Teaching courses in building design, building structures, the fundamentals of architectural and construction design, building physics, and other core subjects at undergraduate and graduate levels.
Developing and regularly updating course syllabi and instructional materials in line with the educational programs in building design.
Updating course content to reflect current approaches to BIM Level 2/3, parametric design, digital documentation, visualization, energy efficiency, and sustainable construction.
Supervising coursework, capstone and master's projects on building design, BIM-based design, and energy-efficient and environmentally sound solutions.
Participating in the university's research and/or applied projects in digital design, BIM, and sustainable, energy-efficient construction.
Area 2: Urban Environment Architecture and Sustainable Territorial Development
Teaching courses in urban environment architecture, public space design, territorial landscaping and improvement, sustainable development, and climate-adaptive design.
Developing and updating curricula integrating modern approaches to comfortable urban infrastructure and sustainable urbanism.
Supervising coursework, capstone and master's projects on urban environment, master planning, and sustainable territorial development.
Participating in applied and research projects on urban planning, territorial improvement, and sustainable development.
Requirements
Education Requirements
Possession of a PhD degree or an equivalent degree in construction, civil engineering, architectural engineering, or in architecture, urbanism, urban environment design, or related fields.
Candidates from adjacent fields may be considered if their dissertation topic, publications, courses taught, and professional experience relate to one of the areas specified above.
Ability to translate these competencies into high‑quality teaching and student supervision at all levels of higher education
Experience Requirements
Academic and teaching experience consistent with the requirements for the position of Professor / Associate Professor established by the university's internal regulations and the legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan in force.
Language Requirements
For teaching in the state and/or Russian language: fluency in the state and/or Russian language sufficient to conduct classes, engage in scholarly communication, and handle business correspondence.
For teaching in English: a confirmed level of English proficiency sufficient to conduct classes and carry out academic duties.
For Building Design
Core Professional Competencies
Knowledge of the fundamentals of structural mechanics and structural design calculations.
Knowledge of the construction codes and regulations in force in the Republic of Kazakhstan.
An understanding of project technology and the structural solutions used in residential and public buildings.
Experience developing and preparing design and working documentation.
Additional Competencies
An understanding of working in a BIM environment for building design (Revit, ArchiCAD, Navisworks, or comparable software), sufficient for teaching the relevant courses.
Knowledge of parametric design tools, including Dynamo and Grasshopper, is desirable.
Interest in and/or experience with green and energy-efficient construction, LEED, and BREEAM.
Knowledge of smart building principles, building digital twins, and construction analytics.
For Urban Environment Architecture and Sustainable Territorial Development
Core Professional Competencies
Understanding of the principles of creating comfortable urban environments, public spaces, and territorial improvement.
Knowledge of sustainable urbanism, climate adaptation, and ecological design principles.
Experience working with real urban projects and master plans (especially valued).
Understanding of landscape architecture and territorial planning principles.
Knowledge of digital visualization tools and geographic information systems (GIS) for urban planning.
