About the position

Applicants are invited to indicate their preferred title in the application (e.g., Assistant Professor, Associate Professor (Dotsent), or Professor — or equivalent). The final position level will be confirmed by the University's Selection Committee based on the assessment of the candidate's qualifications, publications, and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Teaching courses in hydroecology, water quality monitoring, hydrobiology, aquatic ecosystem ecology, assessment of anthropogenic impact on water bodies, and related subjects at the undergraduate level.
  • Developing and regularly updating course syllabi and instructional materials in line with the learning objectives and outcomes of EP 6B08614, and the requirements of state educational standards, national and sectoral qualifications frameworks, and professional standards in hydroecology.
  • Updating course content to reflect current directions: Water Quality Monitoring, aquatic ecosystem bioindication methods, digital sensor monitoring systems, and transboundary water resources management.
  • Supervising term papers and theses on water quality monitoring, ecological assessment of water bodies, and conservation of aquatic ecosystems.
  • Participating in the university's research and applied projects, and collaborating with water resource management bodies and international organizations in the field of aquatic ecosystem protection.

Requirements

Education

A PhD degree or an equivalent degree in hydroecology, hydrobiology, ecology, water resources, or a related field. A related specialization may be accepted if the topic of the dissertation, publications, taught courses, and professional experience relates to the ecological condition of water bodies, water quality monitoring, or aquatic ecosystem conservation.

Experience and Achievements

Academic and teaching experience in accordance with the requirements for academic teaching staff positions established by the university's internal regulations and the legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Knowledge of English will be an advantage.

Professional competencies

  • In-depth understanding of the functioning of aquatic ecosystems and the factors affecting their ecological condition, with the ability to teach relevant disciplines at a current methodological level.
  • Knowledge of water quality assessment methods (physico-chemical and hydrobiological) and the ability to teach students monitoring methodology.
  • Understanding of the water legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Water Code of the RK, and international agreements on the protection of transboundary water bodies.
  • Knowledge of aquatic biodiversity conservation principles and the ability to incorporate them into course content.
  • Ability to translate these competencies into high‑quality teaching and student supervision at all levels of higher education

  • Biomonitoring methods: knowledge of bioindication and biotesting methods for assessing the ecological condition of water bodies.

  • Transboundary water resources: understanding of the management of transboundary river basins in Central Asia and international cooperation mechanisms.

  • Publications in peer-reviewed journals indexed in Scopus, Web of Science, or included in the KKSON RK list, relevant to the vacancy's field.
  • Participation in research projects, grants, or applied developments related to the field.
