The School of Hydrology, Ecology and Environment focuses on understanding hydrological systems, protecting ecosystems, and developing strategies for sustainable environmental management.

The School integrates hydrological science, ecology, and technology to address challenges such as water scarcity, droughts, floods, and biodiversity loss — promoting nature-based solutions and ecosystem restoration for long-term resilience.

• Hydrological modelling and watershed forecasting
• Drought and flood prediction and climate risk analysis
• Nature-based solutions for wetland and river restoration
• Managed aquifer recharge (MAR) and groundwater recovery systems
• Ecohydrology, biodiversity conservation, and pollution mitigation
• Environmental monitoring and assessment technologies

Responsibilities

• Develop and oversee academic programmes in hydrology, ecology, and environmental sciences;
• Lead the School's research in hydrological modelling, ecosystem restoration, and environmental monitoring;
• Establish partnerships with government agencies, research institutes, and international environmental programmes;
• Support and mentor faculty; lead recruitment and professional development processes;
• Ensure curriculum quality and alignment with international standards in environmental education;
• Manage the School's resources, budget, and strategic development plans;
• Represent the School in university governance and in external scientific networks.

Requirements

• ˗ Doctoral degree (PhD or equivalent) in hydrology, ecology, environmental science, or a related field;
• Established academic and research record, demonstrated by publications and funded projects;
• Proven leadership and management experience in higher education or research institutions;
• Knowledge of hydrological and environmental modeling, monitoring systems, and sustainability assessment;
• Excellent communication, coordination, and organizational skills;
• Proficiency in English; knowledge of Kazakh and/or Russian is an advantage.
